Having spent several years living in a house on the cliffs overlooking a northern sea, the artist’s inspiration for works is often directed by the experience of the light and changing moods of the coast.

This particular work drew its starting point from Virginia Woolf’s novel ‘To the Lighthouse’, and its themes of life, loss, time passing, and transcendence.

The decision to create the image in monochrome conveys the subject’s inner thoughts and experiences.
